For a bit of local colour, eat lunch under the bridge in Portimão: where fresh sardines are unloaded from fishing boats and cooked at rough-and-ready harbour side stalls, advertising their presence with the delicious scent of charcoal-grilled fish - there are various restaurants located between the old and the new bridge.

Visit Monchique & Silves – The mountain range of Monchique is worth a visit & lunch stop to eat some cured ham & chicken “piri piri” (a spicy hot barbecue recipe, 2 specialities of the region), then drive to the summit at Foia – on a clear day you can view almost the entire Algarve coast from this point; whilst the former Moorish capital of the Algarve Silves, offers a medieval “castelo” (the best preserved in the province), a cathedral as well as hosting several festivals throughout the summer.
