Casa da Infanta

Perched on the cliffs of Ferragudo on the western Algarve coast, this spacious beach villa for 10 or 19 guests, faces west over the bay of Lagos and towards Sagres and the setting sun, enjoying magnificent 180º views from various terraces at different levels, set up for eating outdoors or just chilling. It has a private swimming pool (heated on request) and the beach is only a few minutes walk away.
The name of the property translates into English as the “House of the Princess” and remains in the ownership of the Portuguese Royal family today. Casa da Infanta is particularly suitable for large family holidays, golfing or corporate groups, and can be rented on a “half house” basis for up to 10 guests or for “full capacity” for 19 persons: there are a total of 9 bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, spread over three floors, with a lift servicing each level. Since the Princess’s days, the villa has been updated to modern standards, yet retains many of the original features, including the antique beds with the family coat of arms. The main drawing room with sea views opens onto an extensive terrace and boasts a beautiful grand piano; there is a separate TV room; and a downstairs bar and WC services the pool terrace, which also has a poolside shower.
Outdoor meals or sundowners don’t get much better than this – the view is of fishing boats passing in front of the house and yachts making their way to and from the marinas, whilst the well-known Algarve resort of Praia da Rocha can be seen across the wide estuary and the rear of the property, looks onto the Monchique mountain range. Quiet and charming Ferragudo is undoubtedly one of the gems of the Algarve coast and we strongly recommend a walk along the beach to the small restaurants quayside where you can get delicious fresh fish grilled on a charcoal brazier. There are also many golf courses, located within a short drive away.
On the same grounds but quite independent Casa da Praia can be rented as an add-on for an extra 6/8 guests – ask us about it!

ACCOMMODATION – 10 or 19 GUESTS

LOWER GROUND FLOOR – Television room (50 sq meters with flat screen LCD TV & DVD player) with outdoor access to ground floor terrace. Triple children’s bedroom (23 sq meters with 3 beds of 2×0,90 meters) with en-suite sitting room (15 sq meters) opening onto pool terrace. Bar opening to pool terrace and cloak room. Laundry room.
GROUND FLOOR – Entrance hall and cloakroom. Double doors leading to a private chapel. Spacious drawing room (48 sq meters) boasting a grand piano and opening onto terrace, which has a retractable sun awning and tables for eating outdoors (16 people). Small sitting room (22 sq meters) with comfortable chairs and CD player. Formal dining room (43 sq meters seating 8 at the main table plus a further 8-10 on two circular tables). Well equipped kitchen (elect grill/gas oven/gas hob/microwave/dish washer/fridge-freezer) and breakfast room, which is ideal for children’s meals. Twin bedroom (20 sq meters with beds of 1,90×0,90 meters & air-conditioning) with en-suite bathroom and garden/river view. All these bedrooms have doors leading out to a shared terrace and have sea views: double bedroom (23 sq meters with bed of 2×1,90 meters & air-conditioning) with en-suite bathroom, double bedroom (18 sq meters with bed of 1,90×1,60 meters) with en-suite bathroom connecting to a twin bedroom (17 sq meters with 2 beds of 1,90×1,15 meters) with en-suite shower bathroom. The former garage has a table tennis and is an ideal playroom for children.
FIRST FLOOR – Twin bedroom (28 sq meters, 2 beds of 1,90×1 meters & air-conditioning) with en-suite bathroom, garden views and outdoor access to ground floor terrace; double bedroom (23 sq meters, bed of 2×1,60 meters plus a foldaway sofa bed suitable for a child & air-conditioning) with small en-suite shower bathroom, garden views and access to roof terrace. Two twin bedrooms (14 sq meters, 2 beds of 1,90×0,90 meters & 11 sq meters, 2 beds of 1,95×0,90 meters, both with air-conditioning) sharing a bathroom and a small sitting room, with sea views and doors out to a shared terrace.

STAFF & SERVICES

RESIDENT HOUSEKEEPER – D. Regina the housekeeper, has been employed at the villa for over 25 years and was housekeeper to the Princess until her death; guests will be met by the housekeeper on arrival; D. Regina (and her team’s) primary job is to clean the house & ensure the washing of the household linen on weekdays only (09:30 – 16:30 hours) with bedrooms, bathrooms & public areas cleaned once a day. Not included: washing of guest’s personal clothes or dish washing. Should clients arrive during weekends or bank holidays, the housekeeper will be available on the day of arrival.
POOL & GARDEN – Pedro works weekdays only (09:30 – 14:00 hours) but swimming pool & terraces are cleaned a bit earlier (07:00 – 08:00 hours) although every effort is made not to disturb guests. BABYSITTING – On request, arranged with housekeeper at Euros 15 per hour, paid locally.

Beach – a gentle slope and walk from the estate grounds will take you to sandy Praia Grande, approx. 300 metres.

Ferragudo (nearest shops & restaurants) – 1 km drive or walk along the beach past Forte S João.

Golf Courses – within a 15-20 minute drive you can reach Alamos, Alto Golf, Gramacho, Pinta, Penina,

Morgado do Reguengo or Vale do Milho courses.

Tennis @ Carvoeiro Club – 3 kms.

Portimão & Marina (major shops & banks, bars & restaurants, hospital etc) – upstream on the other side of the river or 6 kms drive away.

Must Visit – Silves @ 18kms; Lagos @ 25 kms; Monchique @ 30 kms; Sagres & Cape St. Vincent 65 kms.
